Julie Won is a partner at Hanson & Doremus Investment Management, an independent investment advisor based in Burlington, Vermont and Palo Alto, California. Julie joined the firm in 2013 and also worked for the firm between 2005 and 2009. She runs the firm’s Palo Alto office and focuses on investment research, securities selection, and portfolio management for individuals and institutions. The firm has clients across the U.S. and is registered with the Securities Exchange Commission.
Before rejoining Hanson & Doremus, Julie ran her own investment firm, Thistle Finch Investments, a research-intensive firm focused on investment portfolios for individuals. Prior to Thistle Finch Investments, Julie worked with Cogence Capital, a proprietary trading fund; Citigroup’s foreign exchange group in New York, where she was Vice President; and the Committee for Economic Development, a national economic policy think tank. Julie has lived and travelled extensively in Asia and retains a keen interest in the region.
Julie received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a Master’s degree in East Asian Studies from Stanford University. She earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2008 and is a member of the San Francisco CFA Society.
Julie is an active supporter of Girls Innovate!, a Bay Area nonprofit dedicated to building the innovative capacity of girls and women. She has helped to lead and organize numerous events and workshops for the group, and in the past, also has been a regular volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula.Julie is an active Masters swimmer and a former competitive Taekwondo athlete. She currently lives with her husband and daughter in Palo Alto.
